The CTA 2600 Series is a type of railcar used on the Chicago "L" system. These trains were built between 1981 and 1987 by Budd Company and originally numbered 2601 to 3200. They were mainly used on the Red and Blue Lines, the two busiest routes.
The 2600 Series trains have a silver, stainless steel body with a smooth front and blinking lights. They were the first CTA cars with automatic destination signs and solid-state controls. Over the years, they’ve been upgraded, but they’re now the oldest cars in service.
Most 2600s are now used on the Blue Line, and they are slowly being replaced by newer models like the 7000 Series. Even though they’re older, they’re still important for keeping the CTA running every day.
