In response to increasing passenger traffic and the need for modernization, the ATS underwent a significant overhaul starting in 2018. This included the replacement of the aging VAL 256 vehicles with 36 new Bombardier Innovia APM 256 cars. These state-of-the-art vehicles are arranged into 12 three-car trains, each capable of carrying up to 147 passengers. The Innovia APM 256 trains offer enhanced features such as improved acceleration, energy efficiency, and advanced automated control systems, ensuring a smoother and more reliable ride for passengers. The upgraded fleet began service in November 2021, marking a new era for the ATS with improved comfort and operational efficiency.
