Metra is the commuter rail system serving the Chicago metropolitan area. It connects downtown Chicago with surrounding suburbs across northeastern Illinois. Operated by the Regional Transportation Authority, Metra has 11 lines, over 240 stations, and uses diesel and electric trains. It’s mostly used by people commuting to and from work or school. Metra trains usually run less often than CTA trains or buses but cover longer distances.
