The CTA 7000 Series is the newest type of "L" train used by the Chicago Transit Authority. These railcars are being built by CRRC Sifang America and were first delivered in 2020. They are numbered starting from 7001 and will eventually replace older models like the 2600 and 3200 Series.
The 7000 Series trains have a modern stainless steel design, with bright LED lights and a new front shape. Inside, they include both forward-facing and side-facing seats, digital screens, and security cameras. They also feature improved motors for smoother, quieter rides.
These trains are currently running on the Blue and Red Lines during testing and early service. Once more are delivered, they’ll expand to other lines. The 7000 Series is part of CTA’s plan to update and modernize the entire rail fleet.
