The CTA 5000 Series is a newer type of "L" train built between 2009 and 2015 by Bombardier. These trains run on the Red, Green, Pink, Purple, and Yellow Lines and replaced older models like the 2200 and 2400 Series.
They have a modern design with side-facing seats (to fit more people), LED signs, security cameras, and regenerative braking that saves energy. They're also more accessible, with systems that help the floor stay level with platforms.
The 5000 Series trains are not compatible with older CTA trains, so they only run with other 5000s. Some riders miss forward-facing seats, but these cars are a big step up in technology and reliability.
